We spent 2 nights in Luxembourg city wandering around, shopping and visiting churches.
Me looking around in the dark cathedral.
Don't leave me here by myself.
Mum and I just before dinner.
Luxembourg Spuerkeess (I have no idea of what goes on inside). The Gëlle Fra monument commemorates those who volunteered for service in the armed forces of the Allies in World War I.
Cathedral to the Blessed Virgin. The organs in the cathedral.
Behind the altar should be the statue of the Lady Comforter of the Afflicted.
What do you get when you mix a few thousand Germans, alcohol and DIY fireworks together? A bloody dangerous mess. NYE in Cologne is not for the faint hearted and probably not for small children. The ambulances were running all night and we saw some fairly nasty fireworks injuries. Mum got slightly burnt on the leg from a stray explosion.
Our day started with a short drive from Oss to Cologne which is Germany's fourth-largest city and one of the oldest cities in Germany, having been founded by the Romans in the year 38 BC. Cologne lies on the Rhine and has the famous Cologne Cathedral, The Dom.
The Dom.
Get me another beer will ya.
All you can eat Chinese for 7 Euro. Just about the only thing open for dinner.
I'm one happy boy after my wontons and chili soup.
Freezing. Why the hell are we outside.
It has just ticked over midnight.
Crazy. The air was so smokey it was getting hard to see.
We visited the fortress city of s-Hertogenbosch (the Duke's forest) for more shopping, eating and site seeing. We saw the old town and St John's Cathedral and ate green pea soup and red wine.
Ria, Mum and I in the cold.
Still cold in s-Hertogenbosch.
Even Greenpeace members become capitalists when a bargain is offered. Especially when the bargains are 3 Euro acrylic scarfs.
Mum and Ria shopping at the market.
Frank and I with the cathedral in the background.
The inside of St John's Cathedral.
All well fed after coffee and chocolate covered creme balls (I can't remember the name).
Time to see more family so we drove for 1 hour from Oss to Roosendaal to where Toos and Ron live. We had lunch with Toos and saw her new house. We also went to Bergen op Zoom, the home of the largest Philip Morris factory, to do some shopping and walking around. Roosendaal is also where my Opa was born but we didn't get to see the old farm.
Me and Toos.
Mum, Toos and I in some very cool lighting.
Toos' new house in Roosendaal soon to be finished.
