NYE in Cologne, Germany 31st December 2007

What do you get when you mix a few thousand Germans, alcohol and DIY fireworks together? A bloody dangerous mess. NYE in Cologne is not for the faint hearted and probably not for small children. The ambulances were running all night and we saw some fairly nasty fireworks injuries. Mum got slightly burnt on the leg from a stray explosion.

Our day started with a short drive from Oss to Cologne which is Germany's fourth-largest city and one of the oldest cities in Germany, having been founded by the Romans in the year 38 BC. Cologne lies on the Rhine and has the famous Cologne Cathedral, The Dom.

The Dom.

Get me another beer will ya.

All you can eat Chinese for 7 Euro. Just about the only thing open for dinner.

I'm one happy boy after my wontons and chili soup.

Freezing. Why the hell are we outside.

It has just ticked over midnight.

Crazy. The air was so smokey it was getting hard to see.
